Planning Maintenance – Preventative & Predictive

One of the most difficult jobs in ALM is that of a Maintenance Manager. Specifically here in the Middle East where there is a lack of trained crew and technology, the Maintenance Manager spends most of his day attending to one emergency after another. This leaves him with no time to put in place Preventative and Predictive Maintenance, which substantially impact the operating costs and life of assets.

SGE works with Maintenance Managers to plan not only industry standard Preventative Maintenance but also Predictive Maintenance, which is the now the norm in western countries and still making its way to the region. Planned Maintenance is defined as any kind of maintenance, which is pre-planned and consists of Preventative and Predictive Maintenance.

Preventive Maintenance is a maintenance plan based on the pre-planned activities regardless of the condition of an asset at that time. Examples of Preventative Maintenance include:

  • Overhauling
  • Minor repairs
  • Adjustments
  • Lubrication
  • Painting
  • Replacing

Predictive Maintenance is a maintenance plan based on the following asset monitoring and analyzing activities used to forecast the failure of an asset.

  • IR imaging / Thermography testing
  • Laser Shaft alignment
  • Laser Sheave Alignment
  • Airborne ultrasonic
  • Oil Analysis

Advantages

  • Early fault detection
  • Less equipment downtime or additional damage
  • Fewer emergencies
  • Better control over maintenance schedule
  • Advanced notice to prepare personnel, materials and equipment
  • A cost-effective maintenance approach
